Book reviews — April 2015

‘100 Buildings 100 Years’, by The Twentieth Century Society
Over 200 pages profusely illustrated, mostly in colour. Published by B T Batsford Ltd, 2014. Hardback £25. ISBN 978-1849941938
The Twentieth Century Society is interested in all buildings built since 1914, no matter what their architectural style. For this book one building was chosen for each year and what a wonderful mixture of styles ancient and modern there are. Surely there will be something in this book to please everyone. Selected buildings of particular GLIAS interest include the Firestone factory for 1928, Battersea power station 1933, Stockwell bus garage 1952 and Vauxhall bus station 2005. There is quite a regional bias towards London and the South East and this volume can be thoroughly recommended for GLIAS members. Bob Carr
