Book reviews — October 2005

‘The Bus We Loved: London’s Affair with the Routemaster’, by Travis Elborough
Granta Books. Hardback £12. Published September 5, 2005. ISBN: 1862077940. 192 pages
Elborough tells the story of the Routemaster’s invention, rise and decline, of the people who worked on it, and of the enthusiasts who were mad about it. Publishing News says it is ‘a great treat and emphatically not just for the anorak brigade. A very funny piece of nostalgic commemoration.’ Bus Fayre says it is ‘a light hearted read… that will amuse as well as tell the story of one of London’s best loved buses’.
